Rapping, dancing and drumming were all part of the carnival atmosphere when Luton Youth Fiesta brightened up dull skies over Wardown Park.
It was a chance at last for youngsters who had been bitterly disappointed when Luton International Carnival was rained off back in May to strut their stuff and show off those fabulous carnival costumes.
The sun may still have failed to split the sky on Saturday, September 29, but there was plenty of colour and excitement on the ground, with young people from nine local groups forming a procession around the lake and pausing on a ramp to perform for the judges.
St Kitts & Nevis and Friends Association were the overall winners, with groups from Madhatters and Sickelcell highly commended. Rampage won the Spirit of the Carnival award. Sankofa Mas were the best newcomers, and the award for best school went to Foxdell.
Three marquees, a music stage and stalls provided fun for all the family.
