Make a date with Jez and his calendar!
If you fancy a hairstyle as trend-setting as supermodel Agyness Deyn's or as classic as the crowning glory sported by style superstar Kate Moss's then sashay down to the Cutting Corner in Luton.

Because that's where, for the price of being a guinea pig for the salon's trainees, you can play cover girl queen for the day.

Salon owner Jez Barnett is keen to recruit local beauties' barnets to display his trainees' hairstyling talents for the 2009 edition of the Cutting Corner's eye-catching annual calendar.

The venture has a provisional title of "dress distressed" and students will try their hand, comb, brush and any other useful tool at combining elements of 1950s glamour with the flamboyant texture of the 1980s.

It's the fourth time the New Bedford Road business has produced a calendar.

Jez said: "Last year's theme of clashing textures was the idea of the students, who sit together and brainstorm themes. This year we're repeating the experience but developing it too."

His students will be involved in every stage of the shoots and will learn from industry insiders, including Luton-based photographer Hugh Byrne and a freelance make-up artist.

Last year's calendar was so successful the salon received a spread in one of hairdressing's most prolific magazines, Salon Business, and won praise from its editor, who, Jez says, is "one of the most powerful women in the industry".

He added: "My students start off ambitious, because they know they have to work hard to get to a good level. And doing these photoshoots pumps up their confidence at such a young age."

>> The recruitment call for blossoming catwalk stars starts today and the deadline for your test shots is September 28.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
