Team of 13 involved in many aspects of movie production

A talented troupe of young filmmakers in Luton have scooped a much-coveted national award.

The 13 youngsters - Joel Spicer, Gemma Saxty, Zoe Kyriakou, Arnold Cantero, Usman Zaman, David Knight, Joseph Buxton, Aidan Troughton, Ryan Blakey, Georgina Barrett, Sophia Barrett, Aravind Kumar and Philip Yang - won the Unicef UK Young Film-maker Award at the Showcomotion Film Festival in Sheffield.

The teens were the youngest film-makers in the final showdown at the prestigious ceremony, sharing the winning title with another group in a tie-break win.

The team, all aged 11 to 14, were recognised for their time travel trilogy Past Caring, which they made last October as part of a Filmelab intensive course.

Past Caring was shot on location at Lealands High School, before being put together at the elearning@luton centre in Sundon Park.

The youngsters, all aged 11 to 14, conceived, wrote, planned, produced, directed, edited, wrote music and even designed the DVD covers for the films, which were funded by First Light Movies and the elearning@luton centre.

Similar projects are planned for the future, so if you're a young filmmaker and you want to get involved, click here for the website

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
