Charity fears over licence bid

Casino bosses continue to fail in their efforts to charm Luton's debt experts.

In the latest attempt by Grosvenor Casinos to win over the town's frontline debt advisors, company bosses visited the charity Luton Rights.

And for the second time in a month, their hosts were unconvinced a new gambling den would be good for the town.

Centre manager Rumi Chowdhury said: "Another casino coming to Luton can't be stopped but our concern is we already have a big poverty problem and this will just add to it."

Grosvenor's public relations visit follows a similar one to the Citizens Advice Bureau in April.

Luton Borough Council successfully applied for one of 17 new casino licences available under the Gambling Act 2005.

And the casino company, which already runs a site in Park Street West, is hoping to be granted the licence.
