Lions put to the sword as inaugural league is decided

Undefeated Luton Arndale have been crowned as the first ever Barket Super League champions following their comprehensive 5-0 win over Dunstable Lions.

Second placed AC Cadoza won 3-0 against Red Star, but are eight points behind with one game remaining.

One Nation continued their good run with a 5-0 hammering of Stopsley Common and, in the shock result of the day, Wheelwrights defeated USL Rams 2-0.

Attentions now turn towards this weekend's first ever Super Cup final, when Wheelwrights will look to take the momentum from their defeat of the Rams into their clash with Stopsley Common, who will be licking their wounds following their league bashing. The final kicks off at 10.30am at Kent's Social Club.

In South Beds Sunday League Division One, Stopsley United are back on top of the table thanks to a 3-2 victory over Luton Dukes.
The goals for the victors came courtesy of Michael Dearman, Richard Samm and Jay Waed Christie.

If the Jolly Topers fail to win on Thursday evening, Stopsley will secure the league title.

Premier Division outfit Luton Social are on the lookout for players, especially in the goalkeeping and striking department, for the 2008/09 season.

Any players who are interested in joining the clubshould contact Terry on 07887 783503.

Elsewhere, St Joseph's won their first Playfootball.net North Home Counties Sunday League Premier Division game since February with a narrow 3-2 victory at Crawley Green.

A brace from Paul Stanley, his first goals in three seasons, alongside a Stuart Strange effort, sealed the win.

In other North Home Counties action, The 61FC snatched the Division One title from the grasp of rivals Silsoe following a 2-1 win over them in midweek.

First half goals by Tom Furr and James Dunington gave 61FC the early advantage, before Silsoe pulled one back with 10 minutes remaining.

In Division Three, Four Horseshoes are champions after their comfortable 3-0 win at Aldwyck. The victory capped a fine season for Horseshoes that also saw them lift the A&B Sports Challenge Trophy.
And they only narrowly missed out on the treble when they lost the Sunday Lower Junior County Cup final.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
