Badgery nets impressive catch

Round-up of the latest news from Luton and Vauxhall angling clubs.
Fishing for just three and a half hours one evening on the canal this week, Jim Badgery recorded an impressive 53lb 3oz mixed net.
He took seven carp, including fish of 12lb 1oz, 11lb 4oz and 10lb11oz, as well as roach and bream on corn pellet and meat baits.
Mr Brandon caught a 16lb mirror on section nine, while on section three Ivan Smith claimed an impressive caster catch of 40lb, made up of roach hybrids and bream.
On section eight, junior Matt Jay took a 20lb-plus mirror, while on section 13 Alec Sharp feeder fishing corn took bream and roach.
At Beckerings, Mick Stringer shone with a mirror of 27lb 8oz, while Gary Stevens, who fished there most days last week, took six 20lb-plus fish.
The club have, however, had reports of the gate being left open and anyone found responsible is liable to severe disciplinary action.
At North House, the best fish of the week was a 28lb mirror caught by Bill Oddie.
Regular night angler Terry Mays had a common of 18lb 8oz, Kelvin Newman had a common and a mirror both over 19lb, junior David Starling took a 21lb 14oz common and a mirror of 18lb 4oz and Ivan Sayer a 14lb common.
On the South Lagoon, Dawn Hatchelt had a busy night while all those fishing around her blanked. Her haul included five zander between 14lb 3oz and 7lb and six eels to over 3lb, while Will Holtem caught 10lb of bream this week.
The river at the Wyboston complex had been starting to show some good roach until the rain this week and, on Sunday the river was still high and pushing through.
The match men pitted their wits against Vauxhall AC at Kempston this week, where a seal also put in an appearance. P Mills was first with 11lb 6oz, J Salmon second with 7lb 1oz and P Currell third with 4lb 1oz.
At Vauxhall AC, meanwhile, fishing has been unsettled due to the inclement weather but this has not stopped bailiff Peter Baker who has netted a number of 20lb carp from Woburn.
Stanton Harcourt has produced some decent-sized catches, as has Tingrith Manor Lake where Tex Marshall won a club match with a catch of 67lb.
George Kaye finished in the runners-up spot with 41lb while Tony Asplin was third with a total of 31lb.
Asplin won the weekend match at Kempston with 28lb of chub. Paul Caton came second with 26lb, while Robin Page was third with 16lb 10oz.
