Angling round-up
Houghton Regis duo and Luton AC members Kevin Rudgley and Richard Emmerson enjoyed some fine sport on the Grand Union Canal at Grove Church.
Rudgley caught fish of 13lb 10oz, 16lb 10oz and 18lb 5oz, while Emmerson snared six fish between 8lb and 14lb 8oz.
Bailiffs Gary Westcott from Eaton Socon and Shane Welch from Marston Moretaine had a fantastic two-nighter on North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex catching commons of 16lb, 17lb, 18lb 4oz, 20lb, 20lb 8oz, 20lb 10oz, 23lb 8oz, 24lb 2oz, 25lb 4oz and 32lb 10oz.
All the fish were caught using Innovate Baits Squid 2t boilies, which seem to be taking the lake apart at the moment.
At the same venue, Keiron Dawson and James Boston also did well on squid 2t with Dawson catching a personal best 19lb 8oz common and Boston a 16lb common and 15lb mirror.
Andrew Currington, from Houghton Regis, got his North House campaign off the mark with a 16lb common caught from a clear spot at 20 yards.
Jack Heather, meanwhile, had two commons of 16lb on scopex squid and David Starling caught a 22lb 4oz common and a 15lb 6oz mirror on plastic corn.
Luton AC members are reminded that if you make a night booking on North House Lake or Beckerings Reservoir and then fail to turn up you will not be allowed to make another night booking for 28 days.
Club Knockout first round, Grand Union Canal at Ivinghoe Golf Range: 1, Toby Bird, 61lb 2oz – seven carp and bream; 2, Pete Currell Jnr, 22lb 12oz – six small carp; 3, J Hewison, 15lb 12oz – one carp and skimmers. Section winners: P Oldroyd, 15lb 1oz – one carp and silvers; Steve Davis, 14lb 10oz – all roach.
Following the success of their first 36-hour match, Tingrith Fishery are now organising a second 36-hour fun match on Orchid Lake.
The event will take place between Friday, August 21, and Sunday, August 23, with £100 and a trophy for the winner and £50 for the runner-up.
Non-members are welcome to enter the maximum 12-peg event and entry costs £45, which includes some food.
Meanwhile, following another successful event, Tingrith are once again staging a Come & Try Day.
The day – Wednesday, August 12 – is open to all ages with two sessions running from 10am-noon and 1pm-3pm.
It costs £7 per person which includes a snack lunch. For more details on both call Ann on 01525 714012.
At Vauxhall AC, the bream are still feeding at Sharnbrook, with Garrick Langton being the latest beneficiary.
Fishing a popped-up pellet, Garrick caught bream to 9lb in a productive day-time session.
Although not easy, a few carp are being caught from pits one and four, with the occasional tench also putting in an appearance.
On the barbel front, it seems to have been a tale of woe over the last few days. Most are reporting losing fish in the heavy weed growth in the river which is making the fishing very difficult.
John Maple, fishing the river at Sharnbrook, did manage a fine perch of 2lb 13oz, taken on the waggler and maggot in a mixed bag.
Over at Stanton, Peter Evans has now caught several carp to 28lb over the last couple of weeks, while large bags of smaller carp are being taken at Tingrith Manor Lake.
