Colquhoun downs Grinrod to reach quarter-finals
Boxing round-up
Lewsey Boxing Club's Ryan Colquhoun battled through to the national quarter-finals of the ABA Junior Championships with a majority points verdict against the far more experienced Joe Grinrod (London ABA) in Berinsfield.
Colquhoun boxes again this Saturday at Brentwood in a bid to reach the all England semi-finals.
At Marlow ABC's Dinner Tournament on Friday Josh Uddin fought his last fight at the ripe old age of 35.
Uddin, who has to retire in line with the ABA rules, lost a majority verdict to Indir Gill of Hayes ABC.
However, Uddin wants to stay in boxing and is et to become a coach with the Lewsey club.
Young junior Jack Coker, meanwhile, also lost a close decision to Jimmy Ede of Brinsfield ABC.
Three Luton Farley BC fighters competed in the Marlow tournament at High Wycombe on Friday.
Kieran McLaughlin was the star of the show, claiming victory in his debut bout.
McLaughlin proved too strong for Blackbird Leys ABC's Andrew Lowe, winning all three rounds with a powerful display.
Zak Hussain fought Banbury ABC's I Khandoker and, despite a good effort, it was the Banbury boxer who was awarded the verdict by the judges.
Rakeeb Mohammed enjoyed an excellent first round against Slough ABC's Cliff Radcliff, but he was stopped in the second due to eye swelling.
