Luton fighter dismisses a shot at Scot but targets national belt
Luckless Luton fighter Graham Earl has refuted reports linking him with a bout against Aberdeen's WBU lightweight and light-welterweight world champion Lee McAllister.
Instead of the Aberdeen Assassin, Earl has targeted a fight against 25-year-old Andy Murray for the Irish light-weight title.
The Cavan fighter has won all 13 of his professional bouts, six by knockout, and Earl, 29, hopes to fight him in Dublin in September.
Earl said: "There's a possibility I could be fighting for the Irish title.
"Both camps have agreed, otherwise I could be doing something with Frank Maloney.
"When he (Murray) comes over here, he trains in St Albans. He is a tall fighter and rangy.
"It would be nice to add that to the belts I've had in the past."
McAllister, 25, who has 26 wins from his 27 pro fights, had claimed that he was set to face either Earl or Willie Limond – the boxer the Lutonian had been due to fight last – at Paisley on September 13.
He said: "We are in talks with both Limond and Earl for what will be a massive fight.
"It will be for a title, although it has still to be decided which one.
"I am at the stage in my career where I want four or five fights a year before I retire at 30.
"Bring on the top boxers, I will knock them out."
On McAllister, Earl added: "He is behind Willie Limond in the rankings and well behind me.
"I've already had the WBU title.
"If I want to move on and get back to where I was before, I need to fight people above me and who are actually names.
"There would be nothing to be gained from beating him.
"I've already had the belt. It would just delay my career even further."
