Action from the Junior League

Young guns from Luton Swimming Club's B team turned in a cracking performance to comfortably see off local rivals Dunstable and Houghton Regis in the second round of the Junior League last weekend.

Leading the charge was Abigail Gee, who claimed a pair of wins in the 12-year-old age group butterfly and freestyle events and her performance was all the more noteworthy as she was swimming in a higher age category.

She also played her part in a victory for the 11/U medley relay quartet, along with team-mates Meghan McNeilage, Dorothy Dunne and Amy Harvey, with the latter also tasting individual success in the two lengths backstroke.

Meanwhile, in the 10-year-old category, Jessica Butcher (backstroke), Emma Jesson (freestyle) and Lauren Bajak (breaststroke) all won their events, and the trio confirmed their superiority in the medley relay when they linked up with Erin Plummer to win.

In the aged nine group, Ali Ur-Rehman (backstroke) and Taylor Blacksley (freestyle) won their races and the pair then joined up with team-mates Sean Compton and Connor Naylor to win both the freestyle and medley relay events.

Compton was having a busy night as he then swum up an age group to join the 10-year-old trio of Adam Hardy, Matthew Wright and Luke Davis in winning the freestyle relay, before he was then replaced by fellow nine-year-old Taylor Blacksley, to repeat the performance in the medley relay.

In other action, the A team found the going tough in round two and, battling hard, the team fought their way up to fifth place.
The star of the show was nine-year-old George Rodgers, winning the breaststroke in 23.0secs.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
