Hundreds compete at Luton Schools' Cross-Country

Youngsters in action at the Luton Junior Schools Cross-Country Championships


Nearly 500 youngsters contested the Luton Junior Schools Cross-Country Championships hosted by Southfields Junior School.

Students from Icknield High School helped to hold event for Year 5 and 6 pupils in Lewsey recreation park.

Ferrars was the most successful school winning two team events and placing third in another.

In the Year 5 boys competition, Jamal Lewis of St Martins came home first, with Kier Wacy, also St Martins, second and Keirnan Thompson, Ferrars, third. The team event was won by Ferrars with 30 points, St Martins were second on 44 and St Joseph's third on 53.

Bushmead's Michelle Lathwell triumphed in the Year 5 girls competition, with Charlotte Kelly, St Joseph's, in second and Andy Dickens, The Meads, third.

Bushmead won the team competition with 21 points, Leagrave were second with 64 and Ferrars third on 74.

The Year 6 boys category was won by Sam Hazel of Bushmead, Elliott Smith of The Meads was runner-up and A Knowles of Tennyson Road third. Ferrars won the team event with 59 points, Icknield were second and Stopsley third.

Finally, in the Year 6 girls category, Georgina Donning of Ferrars won, with Roisin Green (St Martins) runner-up and Leanna Nerrins, St Margarets, third.
