Karate club collect eight medals

JKL Karate Club shone at the recent JKS Open Championships.

The High Town-based club returned from the event in Nottingham with eight medals – three gold, four silver and one bronze – to their name, a haul that pleased technical director Fred Daniels.

He said: "The strength and technical excellence of the JKL students was clearly evident and was commented on by many people watching the event."

The majority of the team's success came in the kumite discipline with Ryan Parkins and Charlie Pepper winning their respective divisions and Jamie Pepper and Liam Mills finishing in the runners-up spots.

Adem Hodzic, Mills and Charlie Pepper took silver in the team event.
In the kata section, Mills finished second and Ajay Ghela third, but the pair, along with Charlie Pepper, rounded off the day by taking the honours in the kata team competition.
