Brentford match represents a night of firsts for Luton's youngsters

Surprise captain Rossi Jarvis admitted manager Mick Harford's decision to make him skipper on Tuesday night came out of the blue.

And, having got a taste for it, the young midfielder hopes it could become a more permanent role in the future.

He said: "It was a big surprise to be honest. I'm quite happy the gaffer had the faith in me to lead the team.

"I found out literally an hour before the game. He just pulled me to the side and we had to take our team sheets to the referee and meet them.

"I needed to talk more on the pitch and it's helped me to do that.
"Obviously Nico is the club captain and Keano is the next one in line, but it was a great experience and hopefully in the future I can become the captain."

Harford also handed a debut to winger Garreth O'Connor who has signed a deal to keep him at Kenilworth Road until January 6.

The Irishman said: "I had a three-week trial and had a couple of reserve games and managed to score a few goals.

"I was at home in Dublin for 10 days and on Sunday I drove over and trained yesterday.

"I was waiting for the call to come back over here.

"The gaffer told me they were really interested and I didn't really explore any other avenues. There's a good squad of players here. The gaffer seemed sound and it's a challenge too.

"I felt I did alright today. It's my first proper game in a year. Fitness-wise I felt OK."

And he refused to rule out a longer stay, adding: "Personally I just want to knuckle down and train as hard as possible, play the games and see what happens from there."

Harford was equally pleased, saying: "I'm delighted for Garreth.
"He hasn't played a lot of football recently and he acquitted himself well.

"Gareth is a good player. He has been around the block, he knows where to go on the pitch and hopefully through games he will get fitter and better."

Young attacker Scott Sinclair was also delighted to make his debut as a second half sub with his dad watching on from the stands.

He said: "It was a good experience – I enjoyed it. I didn't really know I was going to play. Due to the injuries I had it in the back of my mind that I might get on.

"As long as I perform and do well in training I think I can get in there. Personally I think I did alright. Maybe I could have done a bit more.

"I thought in the second half we looked more dangerous.

"My dad was here. My dad has always been a big influence taking me everywhere. I haven't spoken to him yet but hopefully he is pleased."

Harford, meanwhile, revealed that injured loan winger Marc Pugh is set to return to Shrewsbury while the future of on-loan Bristol City wideman Tristan Plummer is still to be decided.

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
