Boxing round-up

Old foe Declan Fusco narrowly defeated Lewsey ABC's Ryan Colquhoun in the Great Britain Youth Championships in Liverpool.

Wales and Scotland pulled their boxers out of Colquhoun's weight, and East Durham boxer Fusco won a close decision to become junior champion.

Earlier that day England coach Mick Gannon had announced the England team to box this weekend in the multi-nation tournament in Ireland, with Fusco having been chosen in preference to Colquhoun even before the evening bout had been fought.

Lewsey coach Brian Noblett was furious at the timing of the announcement and questioned the suitability of Gannon as the England junior coach.

Noblett felt that the announcement upset Colquhoun's performance later that day as, even if he had beaten Fusco, he would still not have got the England slot.
