Washout hands Vauxhall fifth Premier Division title
Vauxhall Motors claimed the Bedfordshire County League Premier Division title for the fifth time despite suffering a 102-run reverse against Ampthill.
The cancellation of Luton Town & Indians' clash with Dunstable Town meant that Motors' lead at the top of the table became unassailable and, as is often the case, they proceeded to play in an overly relaxed manner.
On Sunday, Ampthill, after winning the toss and batting, racked up 237-9 thanks mainly to Miha Choski, 65, and Will Sneath, 50. Mohammed Irshad was the pick of the Motors attack with 4-21.
In reply, Motors crumbled to a disappointing 135 all out. Sajid Ali was the top scorer with 24, while Sneath, Chris Esh and Ben Hardy took three wickets apiece.
In Division Two, Motors IIs' clash with Potton Town was cancelled.
Luton Town & Indians IIs' trip to Eversholt was also called off due to rain and Town IVs home clash with their Dunstable counterparts went the same way.
Dunstable Town IIs, meanwhile, went down to Henlow by 32 runs in Division Two. Tim Simpkins helped himself to four wickets in Henlow's 232-7, a score that proved beyond Dunstable who were bowled out for 200, Chris Stearn scoring 56.
Luton Town & Indians' hopes of claiming the Saracens Herts League Division Two title suffered a potentially fatal blow as they were on the wrong end of a 39-run defeat to Cockfosters.
Nitin Parsooth took 4-36 and Oliver Rose and Prayag Katechia two wickets apiece as Cockfosters were bowled out for 162. Town's chase though did not go to plan as, despite 64 from Pradeep Jayanprakashdaran, they collapsed to 123 all out.
The result was reversed in Division Five as Town IIs beat their Cockfosters counterparts by an emphatic eight-wicket margin.
Cockfosters totalled 185-6, Kalimullah Khan recording figures of 4-38, before Arun Patel hit an unbeaten 82 and Arshad Dalvi 49 as Town cruised to 186-2.
Town IVs had a good day as they thrashed Harpenden Vs by 113 runs.
David Morgan Jnr, 76, and Simon Shirley, 59, starred as Town were dismissed for 220 before the bowlers shared out the wickets in Harpenden's score of 107.
Relegation is now a possibility for Dunstable Town after they suffered a 21-run defeat against Reed in Division One.
Again, it was the batting that proved to be the weak link as Dunstable could only muster 136 after bowling Reed out for 157. Stearn top-scored with 45 and, with only two games to go, they need to produce significantly better performances if they are to survive.
Dunstable IIs look doomed to the drop from Division Three following their four-wicket defeat against St Albans IIs.
Colin Tibbett hit 67 in Dunstable's total of 201-9, St Albans replied with 203-6.
Dunstable IIIs had to settle for a draw with Northwood Town IIs in Division Seven.
Northwood made 222-9 and, thanks to half centuries from Martin Cutler, Steve Rennison and Alan Carr, Dunstable hung on at 206-9.
In Division Ten, Dunstable IVs came close to beating Abbots Langley IIIs.
Peter Treharne, 74, and Paul Gilbert, 67 not out, led Dunstable to 228-6 before they restricted Langley to 87-9, Simon George taking four wickets.
Dunstable Town U16s are the new holders of the Beds County Cup following their 67-run defeat of Bedford's Queens Park.
At Flitwick, Robert Keogh hit a superb 87 as Dunstable made 153 in their 20 overs, a score that proved way beyond Queens Park who could only muster 86.
Tom Bryne, Chris Wood and Gareth Woods took two wickets each in the victory.
Meanwhile, in the Luton and District Midweek Cricket League, Luton Houghton Town scored a six-wicket win against Luton Majestic.
Batting first, Majestic were dismissed for just 55. Luton Houghton Town cruised to 56-4 in reply, Ayub Khuram leading the way with an unbeaten 22.
