Hatters put in their best half under Money
Professional Luton did just enough to vanquish Wrexham at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.
Manager Richard Money believed the first half performance in the 1-0 victory was as good as any since he has been in charge, but was equally delighted with the way his side defended to keep their first clean sheet at home since September 12.
He said: "The first half performance was arguably the best performance since I've been manager.
"I thought we pressed the ball really well in the first half and second half we have had to defend professionally and we did.
"You obviously hope you can get a second one but they are a good team.
"It was never going to be a good scoreline for either team. When you have two of the best teams in the division playing each other that's what happens.
"You are not going to expect a team of Wrexham's quality to lie down and allow us to dominate for 90 minutes.
"They are always going to have a spell in the game.
"We have had to defend really professionally in the last 20 minutes to make sure we won the game.
"I thought we deserved the clean sheet today. Even under strong pressure at times in the second half, I don't think there were any alarms or dramas and I think we defended very well as a group.
"It's important. There's been some changes down here. That's four wins out of five at home since Christmas, so it's turning around a little bit.
"It's clean sheets at home now that are going to get us the results we need."
And he was left to purr over Tom Craddock's first half goal that eventually proved decisive.
Money continued: "It's a great goal, a good quality finish. The defensive work to get the ball back in the first place is great and he has hit them on the counter very quickly, taken them inside taken them outside and hit it in the top corner and if you see that in the Premiership everyone is drooling about it.
"That's four goals in three games and long may it continue. I thought his partner today was excellent and the support around him was also excellent."
But he admitted he could have been quite different if Andrew Fleming's strike had gone in, rather than been tipped on to the underside of the bar by Mark Tyler, midway through the second half.
Money said: "If the shot goes in you have to hold your hands up and say well done it's in."
However, he refused to focus too much on the top two and declared the Hatters were concentrating on cementing their play-off place and seeing where it would take them.
He said: "The only thing we can do is put some daylight between us and the teams below us as much as we can and as quickly as we can."
And on Tuesday night's visit of Kidderminster Harriers, who were well beaten by Stevenage Borough in the FA Trophy today, Money added: "It's a first defeat for Kidderminster in 13 games. They haven't been doing too badly, have they?"
