Newell dismissal case likely to drag on

Hatters former manager reported to be seeking £300,000
A speedy conclusion to former manager Mike Newell's legal case against the Hatters seems unlikely as the Kenilworth Road club are still awaiting official documentation from Newell and his lawyers.
National newspaper reports have claimed that Newell, who was sacked by the club's former regime in March 2007, is seeking £300,000 from Luton in outstanding commission on player sales.
Newell, who took a hard line against agents and the money they took out of the game, is said to have had a clause in his contract giving him a 10 per cent share in outgoing transfer fees.
However, Luton Town managing director Gary Sweet said he was unable to discuss details of any claim although he admitted that "dialogue" had been ongoing with Newell's representatives.
The Hatters had hoped they may be able to conclude the case before Christmas, but with the FA Court of Arbitration likely to hear it a decision could well drag on past that point.
At present it is still not clear exactly what remuneration Newell is looking for and whether he may also be pursuing a case for unfair dismissal. The current Grimsby boss though has previously stated he does not want to punish the current club and his owner, but instead wants to pursue those who were in charge at the time.
