Rumours are fuelled by former captain's cameo role
The surprise appearance of former Hatters skipper Kevin Nicholls in Saturday's game to mark the 20th anniversary of Luton Town's Littlewoods Cup win has fuelled rumours he could be set for a sensational return to Kenilworth Road.
It has been well documented that Nicholls, 29 – who left Luton for Leeds for £750,000 in July 2006 – has always maintained a soft spot for the Town.
And his appearance as a first half substitute confirmed that the affection he has for the club and the supporters have for him has not diminished.
He said: "It's a fantastic club and the fans have always been good to me.
"It was a very special game to play alongside players of the calibre who have won a league cup."
On the possibility of having a second spell at the Hatters he said: "I adore the fans and they adore me.
"You never know, do you. I had six fantastic years here. I'm a Preston player and thankfully Preston let me play today."
