Round-up of Sunday's local football

Leaside tasted cup success for the second week running after seeing off Woodstock Wanderers 2-1 in the first round of the North Home Counties Sunday League Senior Cup. Fresh from their penalty shootout victory over Hockliffe Lions in the Beds Sunday Junior Cup last weekend, goals from Dale Wigley and Andrew Crick ensured progress in another competition.

However, it wasn't such a good afternoon for a below-par Postels 2000 outfit, who slipped out of the Senior Cup following a 3-1 reverse at Offley Social. Having conceded a first minute goal, the visitors equalised with a Mark Brown free-kick, although more poor mistakes saw the game slip away from them.

Moat FC, meanwhile, are through after beating a plucky Magnum side 4-3 on penalties. The score was locked at 2-2 after normal and extra-time. Carl Hilton scored both of Moat's goals, while Al Farmer and Martin Fensome replied for Magnum.

Elsewhere, Danny Swan and Craig Meyrick both bagged a brace as Crawley Green hammered Lilley Rangers 6-1 to comfortably progress into round two. Nathan Frater and James Niederman also chipped in with a goal apiece.

St Joseph's booked their place in the next round after easily brushing the 61 FC aside 7-3, and the result was sweet revenge for Joes after a league defeat against their visitors just a fortnight ago. Gary Capehorn's treble led the way, Adi Talabi scored twice and Sean Fahy also netted. The pick of the goals though for Joes though came from full-back Daniel Mead, who ran the length of the pitch before scoring. Hayden Wills' scored a hat-trick in reply for 61 FC.

In division one, Moat FC Reserves went down 5-3 to Saracens Head, despite the best efforts of Darren Campbell (2) and Simon Harley.

There was also a goal frenzy in division one of the South Beds Sunday League as FC Sundon claimed a 7-5 win at Lewsey St Martins. Sundon fought back after going behind three times as goals from Lee Sibley, Jarrod Grant (2), Frank Brennan, Graeme White, Liam Hogan and Mikey Ward secured the three points.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
