Stockwood win but Vauxhall stall with defeat

Stockwood Park moved to the top of rugby's embryonic Midlands Five East South table with an emphatic 36-6 victory at Oundle. The visitors' fitness proved to be the difference between the two teams as Park dominated the majority of proceedings. Oundle opened the scoring with a seventh minute penalty but the rest of the first half belonged to Park.

Jeremy Fournier crashed through three tackles to score on 20 minutes, Steve Pollock converting, and seven minutes later Jason Carr touched down in the corner. Pollock converted and he added the extras to Fournier's second of the game before the break.

Oundle started the second half strongly and they added a second penalty 10 minutes in, but that was as good as it got for the hosts. Pollock added a try to his tally and followed this with a penalty before Fournier chased a clearance downfield to cross under the posts. Pollock added the conversion to put the finishing touches to a good all round performance.

Vauxhall Motors produced a battling effort, but it proved in vain as they went down 30-23 to Peterborough Lions in Midlands Four East South. After winning the toss and electing to play with the benefit of a strong wind, Peterborough took the lead with a converted try which they followed with a penalty to make the score 10-0 after just 15 minutes.

Dave Collins opened Motors' account with a penalty but, on the half hour, Peterborough scored their second converted try to increase their advantage. A second penalty for the visitors opened their lead to 20-3, before Neil Hardiman crossed in the corner on the stroke of half time to give Motors hope.

Hardiman capitalised on a spell of pressure, Collins converting, to cut the gap to seven, but Peterborough responded with 10 unanswered points to take control. Motors fought hard and notched a third try courtesy of Chris Gibson, Collins adding the extras, but the visitors defended stubbornly to hold on to their lead and take the points.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
