Houghton Regis SC come out on top

Seven swimmers from Luton Swimming Club competed in the East Region Youth & Age Group Championships which were held at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

In the O14 category, Lawrence Palmer produced a commendable series of swims to finish fourth in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events as well as the 400m individual medley. Palmer also swam in the 50m breaststroke where he secured a fifth place finish.

Hannah Parr notched a seventh place in the 200m breaststroke and a pair of 11th places in the 50m breaststroke and 400m individual medley, while Zoe Smith (O16) turned in decent performances to finish 10th and 13th in the 200m and 50m breaststroke races.

Luton's qualifiers for this leg of the 2008 Championships were rounded off by 14-year-old Brogan Plummer in the 50m backstroke.

Jack Lee and Ross Morgan have both qualified for the Regional Age Group Championships at the beginning of June.

Houghton Regis SC, meanwhile, hosted the final of the Chiltern League Division Four at Dunstable sport centre.

Competing against clubs from Abingdon, Buckingham, Letchworth and Banbury, the hosts produced a good all round performance to come out on top of the standings.

In a time banded event where swimmers could be disqualified if they finished a race in a time that was too fast, a number of Houghton Regis swimmers fell foul of the ruling, but their head coach Robbie Gould was still pleased with his charges' efforts.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
