Bedfordshire Girls County Football Finals

Someries Junior School just missed out on being crowned county champions as they finished as runners-up to Henlow at the Bedfordshire Girls County Finals in Kempston.

Someries won four of their six games but, in what turned out to be the decisive encounter, they went down 2-0 to the eventual winners.

It was the third successive year that Someries have finished as runners-up.

Michaela Clancy was the star of the show for Someries, netting six of the team's seven goals from their six outings.

In a similar opening to last year, Someries were forced to share the spoils from their first game.

The clash with Fulbrook Middle School (Woburn Sands) was dominated by Someries who, despite their efforts, could not find a way through and they had to settle for a goalless draw.

Against their rivals Wenlock, Clancy found the target twice in a hard earned 2-1 victory.

Wenlock opened the scoring in the clash and hit the woodwork on two occasions but, with the score at 1-1, Clancy's second settled the contest.

Next up were Holmemead (Biggleswade) and Lauren Smart joined Clancy on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win.

Holmemead looked dangerous on the break but Charlotte Russell had little to do in the Someries goal as her side cruised to victory.

The pivotal moment of the tournament came in the fourth game where Henlow were the opponents.

In a tightly fought clash, Henlow lived up to their billing as favourites with a good performance that saw Clancy marked out of the game.

Karis Richardson found the side-netting but her effort was as close as Someries came to breaking their drought.

Clancy again found her shooting boots in the fifth game as Saint Gregory's (Bedford) were downed 1-0 by a last minute winner and Someries made sure that they would finish in second place with a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Lincroft (Bedford) in their final outing.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
