Football round-up

A brace from Angus Stewart guided Kent Athletic to a thumping 4-0 Molten Spartan SML Division Two win at Markyate on Bank Holiday Monday.

It was a much-improved performance from the visitors, who had lost four of their opening five league games going into their latest outing. Akeem Gonremni and Shalid Malik were also on target in the win.
AFC Dunstable top the table on goal difference after they saw off Caddington 3-1 on Monday.

Skipper Lee McCulloch headed in the opener on 16 minutes, before Adrian Fontenelle equalised for Caddington 10 minutes later. The game ebbed and flowed after the break, before substitute Ross Morrisey scored with his first touch on 74 minutes, while Felix Kyeremeh made sure with a third in the dying moments.

Elsewhere, Hayden Wills fired a hat-trick for The 61FC as they hammered Bletchey Town 5-1. Matt Terry and Sam Kenningham were also on the scoresheet for the home side. The result made up for their 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Hadley in midweek, when Arron Lewis was on target.

Totternhoe, meanwhile, were unable to build on their 1-1 midweek draw at Wodson Park and are still looking for their first win after they suffered a 4-0 home reverse against Hadley at the weekend.

Also at the weekend, Caddington notched their second win of the campaign after coming away from Aston Clinton with a 4-2 win.

After falling behind after half an hour, the visitors equalised five minutes later, when Daniel Edwards headed in Bernard Christie's cross. Edwards added a second in the 68th minute and despite being pegged back by a 74th minute equaliser, Caddington went on to claim all three points thanks to Adrian Fontenelle's effort six minutes later, while Darren Edwards made sure late on.

Despite a hard-working performance, Kent Athletic were made to rue individual mistakes in their 3-0 home reverse at the hands of Tring Corinthians.

In Division One on Saturday, Brache Sparta earned their first point of the campaign after a hard earned 2-2 draw against Sport London e Benfica.

Despite going behind in the second minute, Carl Drew headed in a long Mark Hartley throw to equalise just before the break. The visitors regained the lead on 57 minutes, before Jason Thomas converted a Jim Benton free kick to restore parity once again. Spartans goalkeeper Nigel Blower saved his side from defeat with a terrific save from point-blank range in stoppage time.

Crawley Green, meanwhile, went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat at early Division One pacesetters Kings Langley.

Chances were at a premium throughout, but Crawley's Robbie O'Dell and James Potter both went close in the first half.

The tight clash rested on a hotly disputed penalty decision on 67 minutes, conceded by Keith Jeans.

After scoring, the home striker was immediately dismissed for violent conduct when he pushed Luke Singleton in the face. Crawley's James Dickson was then sent off after 80 minutes for a second yellow card as the home side held on.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
