West Herts hit back to claim a draw

A thrown away lead meant Luton Town Hockey Club men's first XI had to settle for a share of the spoils as they drew 2-2 with West Herts IIs.

It should have been better for Luton who led 2-0 at the half time interval and also had a goal disallowed.

With their goalkeeper stuck in traffic, Luton were forced to field 11 outfield players for the entire first half, but this did not prevent them from employing an attacking style that reaped its reward with goals from Gary Newman and Martin Kavanagh.

West Herts though were a completely different side after the break and their control of the midfield resulted in two goals to even things up.

The ladies first XI enjoyed a successful weekend as they thumped Chess Valley 6-1.

In an entertaining encounter, goals from Lisa Kavanagh (3), Jenna Maclaren (2) and Becky Clark were more than enough to seal victory.

The men's second XI got the better of their Bishop's Stortford counterparts as they clinched a 4-2 win.

Luton scored their first from a counter-attack and added three more to lead 4-0 at half time.

Bishop's improved after the break and scored two goals of their own, the second from a penalty flick, but Luton had done enough to take the honours.

The ladies IIs bettered the first team as they hammered Royston's second XI 6-0.

Sam Pearce helped herself to a double and she was joined on the scoresheet by Sam Clayton, Rosie Ross and Tricia Murphy.

The men's third XI drew 3-3 with MBDA, Cameron Sarrington and Alex Robertson (2) finding the target, while the ladies third XI were beaten 4-0 by Blueharts.

The club's U15s travelled to Leighton Buzzard where they faced the hosts, Tring and Vauxhall Chiltern in a series of seven-a-side games.

In their five outings, Luton claimed three victories, one draw and one defeat.

Scott Fulton-Brown was the outstanding player for Luton.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
