Vauxhall open league campaign against Clifton

Vauxhall Motors CC held their presentation evening for the 2007 season at Hillcrest School in Houghton Regis.

Veteran Luton cricketer Dipak Parsooth presented the first XI awards to Zaheer Khan (batsman of the year), Mohammed Irshad (player of the year and bowler of the year) and Ahtzaz Ahmed (most improved player).

Meanwhile, it was Parsooth's turn to receive the awards when it came to the second XI trophies. Club secretary Mansoor Rathor presented Parsooth with the best bowler and player of the year awards, while Avesh Odedra claimed the best batsman trophy.

Rathor was named as the clubman of the year and there was a special award for club captain Asif Khan, who guided his side to the Beds Premier Division title for the fourth time.

There were also long service awards, which were presented to Steve Waterhouse, Marilyn Waterhouse and Trevor Dungate during the tea interval of a pre-season friendly at Dunstable on Sunday.

Batting first, Motors made 188-9 from their 40 overs with Asif Khan (50) and Israr Ahmed (47) leading the way.

In reply, the hosts were restricted to 174-7 thanks to the efforts of Ahtzaz Ahmed who took 4-30.

The second XI's scheduled friendly against Stevenage Town was cancelled.
Motors get their Beds Premier Division campaign underway this Sunday when they play host to Clifton CC while the second XI travel to face Kempston Hammers II.

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
