Rapturous applause greeted Luton Youth Cantores Choir when they sang in the beautiful L’Eglise de la Madeleine in the centre of Paris.

They treated a packed international audience to an eclectic range of material, including the 23rd Psalm, directed by Luton Music Service manager Kerry Watson.

The group, formed in 2006 with 12 senior girls from Luton Youth Choir, now numbers more than 50.

The visit was organised as an educational experience assisted by a £1,500 donation from Luton Sommeries Rotary Club.

President Steve Pattenden said: “Helping to fund wonderful events like these is one of the pleasures of being a Rotarian.

“We took a party of 11 to support the choir who are such amazing ambassadors for Luton. They’re just brilliant and so professional, as good as any I’ve ever heard – real hairs on the back of your neck stuff.

“We’re looking forward to hearing them again at Venue 360 in March.”
