Luton teenager Tysie Gallagher is one step closer to her dream – boxing for Team GB at the 2016 Olympics.

The 15-year-old Cardinal Newman schoolgirl has just won the ABA National Female Championship at Brentwood in Essex and is still bubbling with excitement.

“I was absolutely chuffed, buzzing all over,” she said.

“It was quite hard because the week I was fighting I was also doing my mock exams. I had to fit in running, boxing and revising.”

Proud mum Jennifer said: “She boxed brilliantly. But she loves it, it’s in her heart.

“The moment she won I thought yes! A Luton girl can do it. It’s one for girl power.”

Tysie trains at St Albans with James Paisley and Paul Richards,

James said: “She’s the best in the country for her age and weight and it was a great achievement.”

Boxing is in her blood – one cousin Robbie McKechnie has boxed for Great Britain and another, Daniel McGowan, is three times Thai boxing world champion.
