A grieving Luton couple whose daughter was stillborn at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital last year have welcomed news that the hospital has commissioned an independent inquiry into her death.

In a front page story in the Herald&Post last week, Mohammed Amin and Mousomi Shabnam, of Biscot Road, accused the hospital of a “cover up” following a serious investigation incident report.

They called for an independent inquiry and demanded the resignation of hospital bosses Pauline Philip and Dr Mark Patten.

Mr Amin claimed the maternity unit was dysnfunctional and told the paper: “They did not treat us with dignity and respect. They failed to deliver the service they promise to us and the community.”

A hospital spokesman said this week: “We have commissioned an external review which will be conducted by independent, external experts.”
