Little learners at Surrey Street Primary School in Luton are buzzing with excitement after being accepted for the Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ community award.

Customers at stores taking part in the scheme will be given a token with every transaction to vote for their preferred community project over a nine day period starting on Saturday (February 27).

Three grants will be available ranging from £12,000 for first past the post to £10,000 for the second and £8,000 for the third.

School PA Trish Cook said: “If we win, the idea is to build a fantastic outdoor classroom which will include a food preparation area and cooking facilities.

“The project will enhance our successful ‘Growing Together’ garden programme. We already have a beautiful area in front of the school where the children are actively encouraged to plant, grow and care for their own fruit and vegetables and a magical hidden seated area within our woods for outdoor learning and adventures.”
