Four-time Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds is encouraging people from Luton to support Sport Relief 2016.
Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games events are taking place from Friday, March 18 to Sunday, March 20, with people urged to walk, run, swim or cycle at over 1,000 locations across the UK, to raise money for Sport Relief.
A number of fundraising events will also be taking place at Sainsbury’s in Bury Park, Luton over the next month, including a sponsored sky dive by Mark Gray, gym competitions in store and a chance to win a 40 inch TV.
Merchandise including T-shirts, wristbands, softballs and yo-yos, is now available in store with all profits going to Sport Relief.
Josh Mundy, Sports Relief champion at the branch, said: “We’re looking forward to seeing our colleagues and customers get involved in this year’s Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games. Not only is the event going to be brilliant fun but there’s the opportunity raise money for a fantastic cause.
“We’ll also be running fundraising events in store and have a fantastic array of merchandise on sale.”
Of all the money raised by the public through Sport Relief, 50% is used to make a difference in the UK, the other 50% goes towards transforming lives across the world’s poorest communities.
Simmonds, who is backing Sainsbury’s support for the event said: “Sport Relief is one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events and I encourage everyone in Luton to get involved by taking part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games or buying some of the fun Sport Relief products available in Sainsbury’s.
“Sport Relief does great work and it’s brilliant to see the enthusiasm for this year’s event. With Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games events happening right across the country, I encourage people to take part and do themselves proud.”
