David Cameron invited nine of the employees to speak in the White Room about their roles in helping passengers during the Sharm El Sheikh terrorist attack. Thomas Doogan, Colin Watson and Carolyn Nicholls Brown were amongst those invited.

Mr Doogan, who works at Luton Airport, said: “It was wonderful, a great experience and a great honour to have a chat with the Prime Minister.

“We talked about the work we did following the Sharm El Sheikh incident, it was great to be recognised for that and the support we gave our customers.

“One of our engineers, Colin Watson, was on holiday in Sharm El Sheikh at the time and he became the voice of EasyJet for our customers.

“That really helped the situation and the Prime Minister thanked him for his great work and support in the people’s hour of need.

“It was an honour to be recognised for doing our day to day jobs.”

A passenger wrote a letter praising Mr Watson for keeping people updated with his emails and calming worried passengers.

Carolyn, of Bedfordshire, works in customer services at EasyJet Gatwick, she said: “It was just amazing to meet the Prime Minister and be recognised for the work we do.

“I was very honoured to be chosen to go down there and I was even more surprised to be invited for a private chat with the Prime Minister and the other EasyJet workers.

“Our job is to make the travelling experience better for our customers.”

The Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin joined David Cameron at the reception.

The Prime Minister said: “The reason for getting you here is to celebrate how essential transport is. We are taking the decisions to make sure we have a first class transport network. What you do is a vital part of our economy and a vital part of our country.”
