Specialists turn to exports for more chances to grow

A company that has saturated the UK market with its specialist range of products turned to exporting in order to grow.

Energy Maintenance Technologies (EMT), in Barton, is specialist in the manufacturing of niche equipment for the electricity supply industry.

Neil Kane, pictured, from EMT said: “If we’d have concentrated only on the UK market our business wouldn’t be here today, so we knew we had to look overseas.”

EMT turned to UK Trade and Investment to gather information about particular markets and obtain financial support. The UKTI teams in embassies and consulates around the world has put EMT in contact with potential clients. EMT works with energy companies to ensure their personnel are protected when dealing with dangerous gases.

Established in 2009, EMT is still a fledgling company however it has developed an overseas network from 18 to in 45 countries in just 18 months, with 35 distribution contracts being exclusive. The company’s main aim is become the number one provider of Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) Gas test and measurement equipment for transmission and distribution network and service operators throughout the globe.

In the last 18 months, the company has increased from three to seven staff, and is on the lookout for several more. It has also moved into a purpose built building and opened a new office in Atlanta.

Martin Keepfer, UKTI International Trade Advisor assigned to EMT said the company has enjoyed great success making connections in it target markets.
