Have your say on airport growth plan
MEMBERS of the public can see plans for the expansion of Luton Airport at a series of consultation events that begin next month.
The first event takes place in Luton on February 9, and will be followed by others in towns and villages around Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, including Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Hitchin.
The company that runs the airport on behalf of Luton taxpayers, London Luton Airport Limited, announced last week that it wants to double the capacity of the airport to 18 million passengers a year.
It says its plans for growth will include improving the roads leading to the airport, new car parking, changes to the passenger terminal, new taxiways and a new pier along which planes are boarded.
The consultation will now last for six weeks, rather than four, after concerns were raised by members of the airport’s consultative committee, which includes representatives of local residents’ groups, councils and businesses.
Councillor Robin Harris, chair of LLAL, said: “The consultation is about ensuring the airport continues to be a good neighbour, while providing local, regional and national economies.
“Through this process, we will consult actively and listen carefully to the airport’s local community. We welcome further views to be shared and encourage people to attend their local consultation exhibition and to visit our dedicated website.”
