Join in big spring clean for Luton

The campaign is being officially launched in the town centre at 9am on Friday 3 March with a giant ‘litter pick’ involving volunteers who will bring the rubbish that they have collected that morning on the streets back to display outside the town hall to demonstrate the amount of litter that can be picked up in a few hours.

Local school children, council staff, councillors and MPs will be joining volunteers to spread the message about how we can take pride in our town by picking up litter but even better not dropping it in the first place and using the numerous bins that are provided across Luton

Luton Borough Council takes seriously its responsibility to keep the town tidy. It employs street cleansing and refuse staff but is now asking for residents’ help to spring clean the town.

There are a number of events taking place across the borough during the weekend:

• High Town (supported by residents and Signposts Luton) – Saturday 4 March from 9:30am – 1pm meeting at High Town Methodist Church

• Leagrave - Hockwell Ring Mosque (supported by residents and Signposts) – Saturday 4 March from 9:45am – 12pm meeting at the Hockwell Ring Community Centre

• Stopsley Baptist Church (supported by residents, Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth and Signposts Luton) – Sunday 5 March from 8:45am – 10:30am meeting at Stopsley Baptist Church

• Stopsley Village (Signposts Luton) – Sunday 5 March from 10:15am – 12pm meeting at Stopsley Baptist Church

• Marsh Farm (Futures Community Voice and residents) – Saturday 4th March 10am – 12pm meeting at the Meadow Walk subway

Cllr Rachel Hopkins Portfolio Holder for Community Safety and Enforcement said: “This is a great way to get the message across that we should all do our bit to keep Luton tidy and have some pride in our town. We hope that this weekend will kick start an awareness of the part that we can all play in reducing the amount of litter that is on our streets not just for this weekend but for the future by disposing of our rubbish responsibly. We want to give a clear message that there is a growing movement of people who find littering unacceptable.”
