A RANGE of young, socially motivated Luton businesses have been inspired into existence by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

That’s according to an organisation of 12 organisations called Bedfordshire Consortium to London 2012 Games.

A spokesman for the consortium said: “It has inspired performances. It has inspired careers. It has inspired business creation, including several social enterprises since 2008 that benefited from the artistic dynamic of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

“Many of these projects would not have taken place on the same scale if London were not the host of the games. Since we won the bid to host, there have been many initiatives and festivals.”

One of the Luton companies, 4 Movement Limited, registered in Seymour Road, was created in 2010 by Inga Bertasiute, Scott Hayhurst and Kevin Jackson.

The three hip-hop dancers met a few years earlier at a dance class, and decided to form the crew called the UNSEEN SHADOWS. The trio share the role of directors, choreographers, dance teachers and dancers.

In 2008, after performing at the London 2012 Torch Handover Celebration in St George’s Square, Luton, the dancers received support to explore the business side of hip-hop.

The company, 4 Movement Limited, was formed in 2010.

The social enterprise offers a wide range of services from dance classes, performances, choreography, organisation of events and much more.

Additionally, the social enterprise also performed at and judged You Dance, a competition in Lithuania.

The Bedfordshire Consortium to the London 2012 Games is a brand approved by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

It was created by Luton social enterprise champion, Saundra Glenn with the aim of making social enterprises – businesses with a stated non-commercial aim.

The members of the Bedfordshire Consortium to the London 2012 Games are Luton and Dunstable focused. They are Bedfordshire Social Enterprise Network, Saundra Glenn’s own Diversity in Social Enterprise, the Unseen Shadows and 4 Movement Limited, Urbanisum Limited and Free Your Style Limited, both in Dunstable, DSG Media Services Limited, Maatsop Limited, ATP Media & ATP Social Innovation Limited, and Luton Gospel Community Choir, all from Luton.

Inga said: “We will not stop after London 2012. There will be more projects so keep your eyes and ears open for us!”
