Operation Christmas Child is an absolute godsend for the little victims of Chernobyl.

This little girl in a Belarus orphange is awe-struck by the gaily-wrapped shoebox she’s just received from the charity Samaritan’s Purse.

Ad she’s hoping someone will help her unwrap the gifts she’s still not sure are really hers.

You can lighten the life of a child like this by taking part in the annual campaign that spreads the Christmas spirit to underprivileged and needy youngsters in the Third World.

Many have never received a present so the arrival of the OCC team is unique and magical. And once they realise the gifts really are for them, the excitement is humbling.

Luton mum and volunteer Laura Kennedy says giving out the shoeboxes is an emotional experience: “You never forget the joy in the children’s eyes.”
