When Luton actor Nish Nathwani returns to the nation’s screens on Friday night it will be without a close friend and colleague.

Since first appearing as Riaz in BBC One comedy Citizen Khan, 47-year-old Nish formed a double act with The Real McCoy star Felix Dexter.

But following Felix’s death from cancer last October Riaz has been left without his trusty sidekick, and Nish without an extended family member.

After being omitted from the first three episodes of the comedy’s third series, Nish’s character returns to the fold for the next three installments – albeit with an altered role.

Nish told the Herald & Post: “We came on this journey together and I was privileged to have worked with him.

“What happened destroyed me, he became like a family member for me.”

He added: “This Friday will be the first time Riaz appears with Felix not there and it really hit home when we went back to the set where we worked together.

“But as they say the show must go on, knowing Felix he would have told me to get over myself and just get on with it.”
