Luton’s Icon Hotel was the venue for a very special party on Friday.

A group of 73 Age Concern Luton volunteers were treated to tea and cakes by someone who’d been at the receiving end of their TLC.

Director Colette McKeaveny said: “The donor wished to remain anonymous but it’s someone who’s benefitted over the years from the help of ACL drivers, lunch club staff, befrienders, handymen and gardeners.

“They really wanted to say thank you for all the wonderful things the volunteers do.”

She added: “Many work at least three hours a week with many contributing much more of their time than that.

“The volunteers who went to the tea party were aged between 19 and 90 and many of the older ones have been with us since we started in 1994.”

Colette quipped: “Some are recycled staff – one of our retired handymen now runs the Vesper lunch club.”

Board members Jeremy Stanton and Aneel Sharma presented certificates of appreciation.
