The sights, the noise, the smells and the excitement '“ it's all coming to Luton on Sunday with the 40th annual Luton Carnival.

The fantastic extravaganza, which draws in thousands of people from all over the area every year, kicks off at 12noon and the procession will travel along New Bedford Road, Stockingstone Road, Old Bedford Road and Cromwell Hill.

There will be road restrictions and closures in place in the area for most of the day.

The event is the largest one day carnival in the UK and promises to be a great day out.

Up to 48 groups, including floats, marching bands and dancers, are taking part in the parade, which organisers say promises to be full of spectacular costumes, fantastic floats and mesmerising dance routines.

Judging of the floats will take place on Old Bedford Road near Popes Meadow.

But the fun doesn’t stop there.

There is action for all the family at Wardown Park throughout the day and into the evening.

There will be market stalls, carnival-inspired flavours dished up at the food stalls a health and well being zone, fun fair and sound systems,

The event is the highlight of the year for Luton’s prestigious UK Centre for Carnival Arts, with dance routines practised and fantastic costumes made throughout the year for the huge extravaganza.

Based at St Mary’s Road in Luton, the UKCCA helps to celebrate, promote and sustain traditional carnival arts skills and heritage.
