A competition to build a fabulous fit-for-purpose modern 21st century bandstand in Wardown Park will be launched by Luton Rotary clubs later this month.
It will be aimed at schools, colleges and the university.
Rotary steering committee chairman Alan Corkhill said: “The Rotary Youth Trust has allocated major financial prizes for the winners and their educational establishments in junior, senior and higher education categories. “We’re looking to excite the young people of Luton to take full advantage of the park and its surroundings.” The competition is open to all young people aged under 22.
Full details of this major music venture will be presented to leaders of the community, local authority and education establishments at an event on Sunday, February 23.
The winning concepts will be incorporated in the final design which will be prepared by architects and engineers.
It will be known as the Rotary Bandstand and will be used for concerts, exhibitions and theatre, providing a focal point for community events in the park.
