Endowment for young Luton carpenter

A former Ashcroft High pupil has been awarded a prestigious endowment by the Barry and Peggy High Scholarship Foundation '“ offered to select apprentices by the construction industry training board (CITB).

Andrew McReady, 19, of Norfolk Road is an apprentice carpenter who attends Barnfield College once a week while getting practical experience with Croudace Homes at their development in Great Offley.

The financial scholarship comprises £500 for tools and £500 for IT equipment. Andrew was also given £500 for achieving NVQ level 2, construction diploma, and will receive a further £500 when he gains his level 3 advanced apprenticeship.

He said: “I was honoured to receive the scholarship as the money will help me buy equipment that will benefit me in my carpentry apprenticeship.”

CITB spokeswoman Nathalie Collins said: “Andrew was singled out for his maturity, professionalsim and attention to detail. He stood out from his peers as a rising star.”
