Luton Entrepreneur Gavin O'Brien says it's thanks to the skills he and fellow student Alex Lawrence were taught at the University of Bedfordshire that they were able to create successful media production company Clearhead.

The 30-year-old former Luton Sixth Form student says: “Having good mentors was really important.

“Our lecturers were also really honest with us about our work, which helped us improve.

“We were also very fortunate to have access to fantastic facilities and equipment.”

He and childhood friend Alex set up Clearhead after graduating in 2007. The company now counts names like Cadbury, the BBC, Sky and Coca Cola among its clients.

Based in The Hat Factory, they also have offices in London and New York.

Keen to give something back to their old learning ground, the pair regularly share their expertise with current media production students.

Gavin is chair of the Luton BID group.
