Luton International Carnival is set to be scaled down after its organisers lost more than £1.6 million in funding, Luton News can exclusively reveal.

In a move as dramatic as one of its fantastic costumes, the UK Centre for Carnival Arts has been told that from March it will no longer be one of Arts Council England’s national portfolio organisations– a decision which means the charity will have its ACE funding pulled.

In 2011 the non-departmental public body announced that it would pour £1.67 million into UKCCA from 2012-15, but has made a U-turn on the spending for the 2015-18 period.

UKCCA, which took over the full running of the town’s carnival from Luton Borough Council this year, is one of 58 organisations to have its substantial funding entirely cut by ACE.
