Luton Town FC will celebrate their return to the Football League with an open top bus tour and civic celebration at St George’s Square on Sunday, May 4.

Players, management and staff will set off on the tour from Kenilworth Road at 11.30am, proceeding to St George’s Square at walking pace via Dunstable Road, Telford Way, Hucklesby Way, Bridge Street and Manchester Street.

At 12.30 they will then be invited by the Mayor, Cllr Sheila Roden, onto a specially-erected stage at St George’s Square for short celebratory speeches and live interviews to be conducted by BBC Three Counties Radio.

Players and officials of the club will then attend a civil reception in the Town Hall.

As a result of the tour Upper George Street, Wellington Street, Dunstable Place and Gordon Street will be closed from 9am to 4pm.

Luton Town FC managing director Gary Sweet said: “Luton is on the up in so many ways and we hope that our fantastic season on the pitch will heighten the feel-good factor in the town at the moment.

“We’ve packed our fantastic supporters inside Kenilworth Road week in, week out this season and we would like the opportunity for the whole town to come together for one big party.

“It will also enable the players, staff and directors the opportunity to thank everyone for their support over the past 12 months and beyond. It is their support which has inspired this talented and determined group of people to become champions.

“In the words of John Still, ‘the stronger the team, the stronger the team,’ and we are privileged that that the Mayor has invited the club to share the success with everyone in the town.”

Cllr Roden added: “I view the Hatters’ promotion as a great achievement that the whole town is rightly proud of and wishes to celebrate together in the heart of our community.

“It is particularly pleasing on a personal level that the club’s reinstatement to the Football League has been secured during my own Mayoral year, and I cordially extend the warmest of invitations to all Lutonians and supporters of the club to join us for what promises to be a landmark occasion.”
