Sarah Cooper of Stopsley stopped smoking, started training and decided to fundraise for Alzheimers after losing her grandmother, Mary Evans, to the disease.

She said: “We were very close and seeing this powerhouse of a woman turn into someone who didn’t even recognise us was heartbreaking.

“Nanna was the backbone of our family and left a huge hole when she passed.

“I’ll be thinking of her every step of the way, remembering how she used to walk miles every day, picking up my younger brother from school.

Sarah is doing the London to Cambridge Ultra Marathon with her friend Amanda Carnell, who is raising money for a rare condition called CCHS (congenital central hypoventilation syndrome), from which her son suffers.
