Fairtrade Fortnight took place between February 24 – March 9, themed Stick With Foncho to fight against unfair banana prices. A great number of activities happened in Luton, including the launch of Luton’s first Fairtrade School - St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Junior School - and Fairtrade school assemblies.
Fairtrade activities galore took place at the University of Bedfordshire with a Master Chef cooking session, Fairtrade fashion show, Go Bananas Day, Find Foncho activities, Fairtrade Hunger Lunch and Fairtrade movie night. A Fairtrade Wine Tasting with a wine producer took place at the University and at the Hat Factory with the Co-operative.
Fairtrade goodies were available to sample in Luton Mall as local volunteers, organisations and businesses joined together to celebrate Fairtrade. Over 200 petitions regarding unfair bananas were signed by school children and the public.
Commonwealth Day flag raising celebrations on 10th March at the Town Hall also featured Fairtrade stickers, flags and refreshments.
