Town throws celebration '¨for The Queen

Luton is joining towns and cities across the country to celebrate Her Majesty's 90th Birthday on Thursday April 21 from 6.30-8.30pm.

Activities are being organised in St George’s Square including a brass band, classic hits from the Commonwealth, Beefeater and union flag stilt walkers, balloon modelling and an illusion and magic spectacular.

The Sea Cadets, Scouts, Guides and groups from Luton Carnival will join in a parade whilst the brass band is playing.

A beacon will be lit in St George’s Square at 7:20pm, at the same time as hundreds of others across the UK.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will light the Principal Beacon at Windsor Castle.

Residents are being encouraged to bring their families down to St George’s Square to mark this special occasion

Cllr Andy Malcolm, Chair of London Luton Airport Limited, said: “To show our gratitude to the people of Luton we’ve agreed to sponsor a number of events in town this year for our communities to come together and enjoy.”

The event is being supported by Luton in Harmony which is organising some of the entertainment on the night. Jimmy’s restaurant will kindly be providing a birthday cake for the evening
