Imran Chaudhry, 36 trading as Aser Motors, Arundel Road in Luton, was fined at a hearing at Luton Magistrates Court on Tuesday (3 November) following a successful investigation by the Council’s Trading Standards service.

In court he pleaded guilty to 10 charges relating to his car sales business. Cars were sold with false mileage descriptions. Although it was noted that Mr Chaudhry didn’t ‘clock’ the vehicles himself and they were all clocked several years ago, he was guilty of failing to make adequate checks to pass on accurate details to his consumers. One vehicle had done 77, 000 more miles than advertised.

In an advertisement, Mr Chaudhry omitted to point out that one vehicle was a category C insurance write- off. He also failed to provide his correct legal identity on paperwork, making it difficult for a customer to take him to the Small Claims Court when trying to return a faulty car.

The court ordered Mr Chaudhry to pay a total of £8,350, including costs and a victim surcharge.
