A concerned parent organised a safety awareness evening in Lewsey on Tuesday night following the recent horrific attack on a young girl.
Nicola Drew, a parent of a Southfield Primary School pupil, set up the event at Lewsey Community Centre for local residents.
Sgt Ruth Connelly from Bedfordshire Police spoke about street safety and gave practical tips.
A martial arts group then gave a short demonstration of self defence moves.
Nicola said: “I would like to thank Southfield Primary School for their support with planning the event, Lewsey Community Centre for providing the venue, the martial arts instructors and Tesco at Skimpot for the kind donation of refreshments for the evening.”
Panic alarms were on sale at the session and Nicola said she has applied for funding in order to subsidise self defence sessions. In the meantime the sessions will start in two weeks at a cost of £5 per person.
