The man who was murdered in his Carnegie Gardens home yesterday has been named as Leonard Flower.
Mr Flower, known as Len, was 67 years old and lived with his wife.
They had two grown-up daughters and Mr Flower was a retired computer analyst.
He was at home tidying his garage at about 2pm yesterday when he was attacked.
Mr Flower’s wife was in the house at the time of the incident and was unaware of what had happened until police and paramedics arrived.
Det Chief Insp Jason Gordon said: “This is a violent incident that has left a family in total shock. Our deepest sympathies are with his wife and daughters and all who knew Mr Flower. While we have a man in custody, it is very important that anyone who has information about the incident comes forward and speaks to the police. We are still very unclear of the motive for this crime. We need to build a picture of what led to this murder and why he came to be a victim in this horrific event.”
A 35-year-old man who was arrested last night in Warwickshire on suspicion of his murder is now at Luton Police Station where he will be questioned today.
The Flower family have respectfully requested they be left alone to deal with the shock and grief they are experiencing and do not wish to be contacted by anyone at this time.
A cordon remains in place at the scene in Carnegie Gardens while a full forensic examination of the area takes place.
